NYC: SWFS – Israeli Author Dorit Rabinyan

April 26, 2017 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join best-selling novelist and Israeli television host Dorit Rabinyan for a talk about her new novel, All The Rivers, just one day after its North American release. The novel, the story of an Israeli-Palestinian love affair set in New York City, became the subject of international controversy after it was not included in Israel’s official high school curriculum after receiving critical acclaim and numerous awards.

As per CAMERA.org:

In December of 2015, Israeli novelist Dorit Rabinyan’s Borderlife (in Hebrew, Gader Haya) made headlines after accusations that it had been “banned.” In fact, the novel had never been banned at all, rather, Israel’s Ministry of Education had made a decision not to include it in the high school curriculum. The book was readily available for purchase in Israel to anyone that wanted it.

Now, as Rabinyan prepares to set off on a US book tour, and the novel is published in the UK (under the title All the Rivers), the Guardian has reported that the book was “censored” in Israel. Despite contact from CAMERA’s affiliate UK Media Watch, the Guardian has refused to correct its story

Enjoy light snacks and refreshments and the rare opportunity to ask Rabinyan about writing and Israeli culture.

This event is free but please RSVP.
